New Pattern!

The Aria pattern is now available

item16 Hi! I'm Justine, but here they call me "Jussi" (rhymes with fussy!)

I live in New Zealand, the land of sheep, a long way from the rest of the world, but when you buy my knitting patterns they arrive in your inbox instantly due to the magic of the internet.

I design knitwear for everyone - babies, children and adults, even for your home. You will find that the majority of my designs are for babies and young children though, I try to create garments which are gorgeous, practical and a bit different - just like your baby!

You may have arrived here from a search engine looking for free baby patterns to knit for charity, or looking for the perfect pattern because a much wanted baby has been announced and your first instinct is to knit something to welcome this precious new person.

Whatever you are looking for, you will find it here no matter what your need, skill level or access to materials.

Basic tips for completing a successful knitting project:

  • start small, finishing something is a good spur to starting something more ambitious
  • use the best quality materials you can afford, qualities to look for in yarns for babies are: softness, washability and natural fibres. Think about the lifestyle of the parents, if they are super busy then a super-wash yarn is a must, if allergies are a concern then maybe an organic cotton will be more suitable.Check out your local yarn store or go online to see the world of yarn possibilities.
  • Blue for boys and pink for girls is so over! Think charcoal and red, teal, deep orange or hand-painted brights to reflect your baby's personality.
  • Ask for help! if you run into problems ask a friend, your local yarn store, find your local knitting group or ask questions online. Youtube has numerous well made videos to help you with all kinds of interesting techniques.
  • If you must knit the smallest size stick to socks or hats, babies grow so quickly that it would sad if she outgrew that newborn size sweater in less time than it took you to knit it! Size 3 months is a good start.
